The Sports Department
Peponi House School has a large and vibrant Sports Department. The department is made up of well qualified teachers and specialist coaches who deliver PE, Games, Swimming and Tennis lessons. The department prides itself on encouraging all pupils to participate fully in lessons and develop their skill level. Our philosophy is to instil a positive attitude towards sport and physical activity by giving each pupil as much experience and information as possible to enable them to make their own decisions regarding sport and physical activity later in life.
Peponi House has well maintained sports grounds and facilities. We have three all weather hard-court tennis courts, four cricket nets, a 25 metre six lane swimming pool with a large viewing area, a sports pavilion and five large sports pitches. Our team of grounds staff take great pride in making sure our pitches are maintained to the highest standards. The department stocks a large amount of equipment and various balls, rackets, bats and sticks. However, our greatest asset is our team of specialist coaching staff who teach Games lessons. A number of our coaches have represented Kenya in international competitions and bring with them a huge amount of technical skill and expertise. Working with ‘the best’ is a great privilege for our children and one they greatly enjoy and value. Our team of staff is very committed to developing sports in the school and provide opportunities for pupils to work on their skills outside the school day; swimming and tennis squads, late practices for Games teams and ‘academies’ are run after school and during weekends and holidays. A good number of our pupils leave Peponi House having gained a Sports Scholarship to their next educational establishment.

Physical Education Curriculum
Our aim is to offer a wide range of activities to all pupils regardless of age, sex, ability or skill level. The P.E. curriculum includes individual and team activities. These activities are competitive, cooperative and creative. There is a comprehensive programme of developing skills and techniques used in all sports, with particular emphasis on gymnastics and dance. All pupils are expected to participate fully.
Games
In our Games sessions, we focus on participation and enjoyment but also encourage competitiveness and sportsmanship. The school runs teams at Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 level. In each age group there are ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and sometimes ‘D’ teams. It is our aim that all pupils will represent the school in competitive fixtures at some point during their Peponi career. Our teams compete in regular and fiercely contested Inter House matches, and fixtures and Inter Schools Tournaments throughout the year against other Kenyan preparatory schools. We host weekly fixtures and also hold annual Hockey, Football and Tennis tournaments.

Swimming
Swimming pools and the Indian Ocean are an integral part of living in Kenya and this is something that we at Peponi House take very seriously. Our expertly maintained pool gives the children ample opportunity to learn water safety at the same time giving many the opportunity to compete in Inter School Galas, IAPS Galas, NASA (Nairobi Amateur Swimming Association) and International Competitions. Each year some of our swimmers are selected to represent Kenya in events in South Africa, Zambia or Zimbabwe.
